August Burns Red - Constellations
Constellations starts off with multiple guitar slides, erupting into a fury of technical Metalcore destruction. For the first two tracks, it seems like it's just more of the same from August Burns Red, until you come upon one of the Constellations gems, "Ocean of apathy", which eventually progresses into a smooth jazz riff before erupting into a beautiful lush melody. The CD itself, while still holding that same technical guitar, odd time signature, double bass pounding sound found on Messengers is improved and polished on Constellations. There is no doubt the guitar work has improved for this record and surprisingly sounds beautifully melodic and well done. Although this record is more melodic, it does not take away from the pulse pounding fury of its predecessor. There are plenty of technical licks that will melt any metal heads face off. It still feels like August Burns Red haven't met their peak in musicianship yet, but after this release, I am positive they will.
